WHAT I’M WORKING ON NOW
I submitted Daughter of the Moon to publishers during September and am still sending the piece through the end of October. I’m also about 20,000 words into Black in the Day which might be a replacement for the completed # The Book which needs a major revision and will probably become two separate pieces.
# THE BOOK
18 months before Pullman sales date, I panicked. How am I going to make it accessible to thousands of people? I know thousands. I’ve lived in four states and 12 cities. I’ve worked for two universities and huge retail stores. I worked in a factory, city, and county government offices. I was active in several churches and was a youth counselor. I have beaucoup relatives. I wanted to reach all of them. Hashtags!
The thought crystalized in my mind and so I wrote. I wrote for two months and completed a 73,000 word manuscript. I had an index of more than 3,000 hash tags. It was so boring, even I didn’t want to read it. Even though I didn’t write anything derogatory about anyone, would these people want the world to know where they were at certain times of their lives? Would I?
So I edited, then I rewrote. Then I saw something different. I began another rewrite. I was not having any fun. I prefer creating to renovating. I used to sew and mostly refused to do alterations. Fortunately, my mother offered to rip and repair and liked doing it. I have no one to make alterations in my writing.
BUT, every time I stopped completely, an inner voice insisted that I continue, then one day I wrote something and saw - IT’S NOT ALWAYS ABOUT ME! So, I’m working diligently to complete a new unnamed masterpiece that I still refer to as # The Book.
